Hello, I'm Kimberly L.
People often ask me how I got into the floral business, and honestly…there really isn’t a short answer. I grew up surrounded by creativity. Two of my aunts were florists and balloon artists (yes, that’s absolutely a real thing), so flowers, design, and celebration were always part of my life. Ironically, my career actually began in corporate sales, selling network equipment to Fortune 500 companies. The money was great, but something was missing — it wasn’t personally fulfilling. That eventually led me to Landings at Spirit Golf Club, where I became the banquet manager and helped build their wedding business. That’s where I truly fell in love with the wedding industry. One of the vendors I worked closely with was River City Floral. The owner, Lora, was one of the most talented floral designers I had ever met. As we got to know each other, she shared that she was looking for a business partner — someone who could help manage the operations side of the business: bookkeeping, accounting, marketing, and organization. With my background in business and wedding coordination, it felt like the perfect fit. In 2009, with financial help from my father, I bought into the company. To say I was overwhelmed at first would be an understatement, but I absolutely loved what I was doing. Eventually, Lora decided to step away from the business, and my father purchased her remaining share, turning it into a true family-owned company. We later moved locations and rebranded as The Lotus Blossom. I always loved the meaning behind the lotus flower — rising beautifully through difficult conditions — and even more fitting, my last name is pronounced “Lotus.” Anyone who knows my story personally understands why that symbolism speaks so deeply to me. In 2011, I decided I wanted to fully immerse myself in the floral industry instead of relying on others for design work. I attended and graduated from The St. Louis Academy of Floral Arts and Sciences and became a certified florist. From there, the business really flourished. I focused heavily on weddings and marketing while building relationships throughout the community. My children and their friends all worked in the shop at one point or another, and it truly became a family business. Holidays were spent together processing orders, planning deliveries, creating arrangements late into the night, and sharing laughter through exhaustion. The hours were long, but the memories and relationships were priceless. In 2014, my father’s health began declining, and we made the difficult decision to close our retail storefront. I transitioned the business into a home-based studio where I continued specializing in weddings and funeral work for another decade. Then, in 2024, everything changed. My home burned to the ground, and I lost nearly everything. That tragedy ultimately brought me back to Houston to be near my father during the final stage of his life. Now, after rebuilding my life and spending the last two years finding stability again, I’ve realized it’s finally time to fully return to what I truly love: helping families celebrate, honor, grieve, and heal through flowers. Today, serving the Houston, San Antonio, and Austin markets, I specialize in silks, corporate accounts, weddings, and fresh floral designs for any occasion. In 2025, I lost my father, and this business is now dedicated to his memory, his love of flowers, and his favorite role as our “Thursday Delivery Boy.” (His business cards actually listed his title as “Owner & Thursday Delivery Boy.”) You’ll soon start seeing me at wedding shows, networking events, and marketing everywhere again. This isn’t just a business to me — it’s part of who I am, part of my family’s story, and part of my heart. I’m incredibly excited for this next chapter.
